Sorry for teasing this so much over the past few days. The fact is, I've been sitting at 13 songs since Sunday and wanted to get #14 down before the update. And I finished it last night!
I've been keeping notes on the experience all month and I'm going to do a debrief email at the end of the month with some observations and thoughts but I wanted to offer some perceptions now on reaching the goal.
First - it feels great. I know I can and will write more this month, there's still 8 days left. But I've got that little trophy on my profile and I've never been more proud of a digital icon. In addition to that, I sat down and listened to all 14 songs in a row on my way to bed and there is a deep sense of achievement in doing that. It's a bit mind-blowing. While I'm planning on changing and/or taking down most if not all the songs in the next couple of months, if you're reading within a few months of this blog being posted, you can go listen to it all yourself at my Soundcloud page.
Second, as mentioned before, I'm not done yet. With a bit more than a week left and a weekend in there, I'd like to hit about 18 songs or so. I've got 41 minutes of music now, I'd like that to hit an even hour. One, because it's a nice round number. But also because there's a few songs I don't think I'll use moving forward - at least not in the near future. They're serious or maybe not that good. I have two songs written that I think I could combine under one idea ("Magic" and "Trevor's Tincture"). I also wrote two "it's cold outside" songs and I've alreay got one in my repertoire. That actually turn into a real-life EP - maybe something I can work on for release in December But I'd like to finish the month with about 40 minutes of new material I can add to my collection right away.
I would like to hit up some collabs. I started on one last night after reading a particularly good lyric that had no music. I recorded a rough demo and sent it off to the writer. We'll see if he likes it and is ok with me submitting. If that goes well, I'm alreay at 15!
Finally, I really want to go back over each of the songs once before the end of the month and put on some polish. Several of the songs have already had some changes made in the lyric sheets I keep and I've got thoughts on changes and additions to others. Not to mention there's a handful, especially ones I did during Skirmishes that are very rough demos. I'd like to just sit down and capture some better performances.
But I think that's all I have about FAWM for today. I'll be sure to check in next Friday or Saturday once everything is done and share some thoughts. I think I have about 2 or 3 blog posts I'd like to do to sum the experience up and strategize what to do next with this material. There are many ideas, I have to pick what's achievable.
